[via press release from HBO]HBO RENEWS “GAME OF THRONES” FOR FOURTH SEASON

Season Three Soars To Highest Viewership Yet

LOS ANGELES, April 2, 2013 – HBO has renewed GAME OF THRONES for a fourth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming.

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, GAME OF THRONES is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal. The Emmy(R)- and Golden Globe-winning series launched its ten-episode third season Sunday, March 31 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO, with other episodes debuting subsequent Sundays at the same time.

Among the early critical praise for the third season, the Hollywood Reporter called GAME OF THRONES “addictive and outstanding,” while Newsday termed the series “superb,” awarding the show an A+. The Chicago Tribune hailed the show as “spellbinding” and the Washington Post described it as “masterful.”

According to early data, GAME OF THRONES’ season three premiere March 31 on HBO topped the series’ highs, with record viewership for both the 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT) airing and gross audience across the three plays. At 9:00 p.m., it averaged 4.4 million viewers, outperforming (+4%) the previous high of 4.2 million viewers from last season’s finale. GAMES OF THRONES improved 13% in comparison to last season’s premiere of 3.9 million viewers. Across the three plays for the night, 6.7 million viewers tuned in, surpassing last season’s debut night of 6.3 million viewers by 7%. Last season, GAME OF THRONES had an average gross audience (HBO linear plays + HBO On Demand/HBO GO + DVR) of 11.6 million viewers.

For more on the series, visit facebook.com/GameOfThrones and twitter.com @GameOfThrones #GameOfThrones.

Season three credits: The executive producers of GAME OF THRONES are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger, Bernadette Caulfield; co-executive producers, Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis, George R.R. Martin, Vanessa Taylor; produced by Chris Newman, Greg Spence.

The “Arrow” family is growing fast! Zap2it has confirmed that Colton Haynes, who guest stars as juvenile delinquent Roy Harper on The CW’s hit series, has been promoted to series regular for Season 2.

While we haven’t seen Roy and Oliver interact yet, a teaser pic from Stephen Amell confirms that Roy does have a run-in with The Hood sooner rather than later. In next week’s episode, Oliver is forced to save Roy from a murderous villain called “The Savior” — a guy whose devious deeds are apparently inspired by Oliver himself.

Roy has only appeared in one episode so far, but if DC Comics lore is any indication as to what’s to come, Colton will have no shortage of material to work with. In the comic books, Oliver actually adopts Roy, and helps him through some complicated issues, including an addiction to heroin. While our CW Oliver certainly isn’t ready to be taking in any foster kids (he still lives with his mom himself!) he could serve a certain purpose for Roy.

Director Antoine Fuqua, who has been doing press for his latest movie, Olympus Has Fallen, has revealed that the 24 movie is not going to happen, and that the project is dead.

One year ago, we reported that Fox had indefinitely delayed the 24 movie, which at one time had Antoine Fuqua set as the front runner to direct. Here’s what the filmmaker had to say about the project.

“Yeah, that’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me. I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [Touch].”

It was rumored that there were issues with the budget, and that Fox gave Kiefer Sutherland a rather low offer to star in the big-screen continuation of the hit Fox series 24. While Antoine Fuqua wouldn’t exactly confirm those rumors, he believes a deal was never solidified between Kiefer Sutherland and the studio.

“I don’t think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.”

The director also spoke about Southpaw, the boxing project that DreamWorks acquired in 2010 for Eminem to star in. While the filmmaker didn’t confirm whether or not the rapper is still attached, he did reveal that the project is now at The Weinstein Company.

“Southpaw was with DreamWorks, that’s when I got the job. Then Em had to go do his music, so we paused it for awhile. I have a great passion for that project, and I met with [Steven] Spielberg about it, and I loved it. The timing of that didn’t work up. And I spoke with Harvey Weinstein, and he loved it from the beginning. So I said, let’s do it. So he went over and talked to them, and Harvey has it now. We’re looking at different casts and I’m looking to be doing that at the end of the summer.”

The filmmaker also spoke about his Tupac Shakur biopic Tupac, that is still in the very early stages of development.

“It was announced too soon. I have a deal for Tupac, but the script is not there yet, and its being worked on. Somehow someone started talking about it, it got out there and went crazy, but it was always a situation of, let’s make sure we have a great script, and get it right. (The story focuses on) the last few days, that trip from LA to Vegas, and where his head was during that journey.”

He is also attached to direct an untitled biopic of famed singer Miles Davis, which has Don Cheadle attached to star. However, they are having difficulties securing financing at this point.

“Don’s a good friend and we talk about it all the time. It’s funny when these things get announced, because I’m attached to it, I wanna do it with Don, but there’s no written deals. We’re trying to figure out where the money’s coming from. It’s been surprisingly tough to get the money together to do the Miles Davis story. I love Miles Davis, I love Don, how could you not want to make that if you’re serious about making movies?”

The filmmaker revealed he is also attached to make the Chinese epic The Tang Dynasty, set in 8th Century China that he compares to Gladiator.

“Now it’s in their system, they have to go through the government. That project is a big epic movie, and they have money, and I’m sort of at the mercy of that process. The goal initially was to get the Tupac script together, because that was a smaller movie, and then I would go to China because it’s gonna take time to prep that movie, sixteen to twenty weeks to prep that movie. It’s costumes, big battle scenes, recreating the dynasty. Like Gladiator but in China. We’ve talked about doing it in the Chinese language. It’s tricky, because at one point we thought, we’d do Chinese language and at some point it dissolves into English. But you’ve gotta get great Chinese actors. I’ve been there with Chow Yun-Fat [on The Replacement Killers] — you get the best out of them when they’re in their element.”

Fox announced today that they’ve renewed The Following for a second season. Kevin Williamson’s series is six episodes into its first season, with Episode 7 (“Let Me Go”) set to air tonight. Tonight’s episode is the first of nine remaining episodes of the first season. While the network’s announcement doesn’t specify, Season 2 will presumably pick up next winter, unless the network decides to move it to the fall.

Fox’s psychological thriller The Following has been delivering steady ratings, dipping only slightly from its series premiere of more than 10 million viewers. So while it’s not especially surprising to learn that the network has decided to give it an early renewal ahead of the spring, it’s certainly good news for those of us who have grown used to looking forward to Mondays to see what happens next to Joe Carroll’s creepy followers and Kevin Bacon’s Ryan Hardy, the man trying to track them down.

The Following stars Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, the former being FBI’s Ryan Hardy and the latter, the serial killer whose cult-like following is making mischief while he’s locked away on the inside, somehow still managing to pull the strings. The drama borders on over-the-top at times, but that’s sort of part of the fun. It’s suspenseful, puzzling and exciting all at once. And as last week’s episode proved, it has a sense of humor about itself, as we saw Kevin Bacon antagonizing the trio of Carroll-followers who were almost too caught up in their own drama to function and keep on task. Of course, a lot of people ended up getting shot in that episode, so we might want to keep in mind, if there’s reason to smile in an episode, we might pay for it later with horror.

Here’s Fox’s description for tonight’s episode.

In tonight’s all-new episode (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), with the help of attorney Olivia Warren (guest star Renee Elise Goldsberry), makes a case against Ryan (Kevin Bacon) and the FBI to be transferred to a different facility, but Ryan suspects a larger plan may be at play. Meanwhile, Emma (Valorie Curry) and Joey (Kyle Catlett) arrive at a meeting point and come across another follower who has a secret of his own.

The fact that Renee Elise Goldsberry is listed as a “guest star” leads me to believe something horrible is in store for her character Olivia, who has already lost a few fingers to Carroll’s cause.

Another one bites the dust: NBC has canceled “Do No Harm” after just two episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The “Jekyll and Hyde”-inspired series was a ratings disaster when it premiered on Thursday, January 31 to 3.1 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the key 18-49 demographic. Those were the lowest numbers in history for a series debut across the Big Four networks, NBC, Fox, CBS and ABC. “Do No Harm’s” second episode, which aired on Thursday, February 7, dipped to 2.2 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in key demo.

“Do No Harm’s” cancellation is the fastest of the current 2012-2013 season. Fox’s “Ben & Kate” and ABC’s “666 Park Avenue” were also canceled, while Fox’s “The Mob Doctor,” ABC’s “Last Resort,” and The CW’s “Emily Owens” were able to finish their runs, but will not return for second seasons.

“Do No Harm” starred Steven Pasquale as Dr. Jason Cole (and his devilish alter ego Ian Price), as well as Phylicia Rashad, Alana de la Garza and Samm Levine.

“Ultimately in this scenario, I’m just the actor who’s saying the words,” Pasquale told The Huffington Post before “Do No Harm” premiered. “If the show works, it’s a real game-changer for someone like me, and if it doesn’t, then we went down swinging for the fences, but we’re certainly not playing it safe on this show.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC will air repeats of “Law & Order: SVU” in “Do No Harm’s” timeslot of Thursday at 10 p.m. on Feb. 14 and Feb. 21.

A source close to the situation confirmed to The Huffington Post that “Do No Harm” has been removed from NBC’s schedule and there is no further information as to when and if the rest of the episodes will air.
